Alabama Barney Sighting

Tripawds member Gecko sends picture of Barney and June in Alabama.

We’re still waiting to find out where the Killbarney Tour will stop next, but in the mean time we received this photo from Tripawds member Gecko featuring her dog June with a Barney doll of her own …

June is not a Tripawd, but Gecko can often be found hanging out in the Tripawds Live Chat room. If your three legged friend has a Barney doll, send us a photo or video link and we’ll post it here in the KillBarney blog!

No Barney? No problem … check your local thrift store or buy one here to help support the Tripawds Community.

A Little Bit of Barney History

Read all about the KillBarney blog and learn how the KillBarney Tripawds Traveling Barney tour came to be.

Perhaps a little history lesson is due while we wait to find  out where Barney is headed next. Followers of the KillBarney Tour, may wonder if there is more than one Barney. Maggie asked that exact question before posting about her visit with Barney in Maine. The following is our reply …

A long time ago, in a lush land by the sea far, far away, Tripawds founder and Chief Fun Officer Jerry G. Dawg had dragged his people away from their computers to go for a walk and they came upon a yard sale. Jerry sniffed a Barney doll and the couple thought of how fun it would be to see their dog destroy the purple icon that had come to identify a completely different generation of TV children.

One Barney led to another and before long Jerry had developed a co-dependent relationship with his purple posse. There was Big Barney, Travel Barney, and his arch nemeses, the Singing Barneys.

Periodically, one Barney would succumb to the thrashing, but more and more often Jerry cherished his Barneys so they grew in numbers as they were liberated from more yard sales and thrift store shelves. When the pack hit the road after Jerry’s amputation, a big ol’ bag o’ Barney’s had to come along. Barney had his own RV Blog first, posting pictures from roadside attractions across America.

When Jerry passed, Barney was there with him, on their Barney blanket, under the big Montana sky. Back at the rig, a bag o’ Barneys awaited their fate.

One went to Jerry’s girlfriend Lalla in Israel first, and another to his best friend Winston in Oakland, CA. Barney B in Texas, needed one of course, as did Jerry’s look alike, Rocco in Washington.

When the Tripawds Blogs community was launched, Killbarney started the first member blog and was quickly promoted to be the third site Administrator, along with Admin and Jerry. Here the Tripawds team shared photos and videos from Jerry’s cross country adventures with Barney. Then came the Killbarney Tour idea.

One of Jerry’s few remaining Barney dolls was packaged up and shipped off to Caira Sue. Wyatt continues to destroy another – which has become affectionately known as FrankenBarney around the Tripawds headquarters – and the rest is history, in the making. Stay tuned for more Travels with Barney!

Barney Clears Canadian Customs

Barney visits three legged Golden Retriever cancer survivor Catie in Edmonton, Canada.

Tripawds member carmenmcconnell just informed us that Barney made it to Edmonton, Canada! Be sure to check out Catie’s blog soon for complete details.

Barney’s been hiding out in Canada with Catie and Riley. It took him a while to make the journey from Colorado to Edmonton. We’re thinking it had to do with Canada customs officials who are known (if not exactly admired) for their officiousness, especially when it comes to purple plush dinosaurs crossing the border.

Catie and Riley were shy and skeptical at first. But Barney won them over with his purple charisma and they couldn’t kill him after all.

He had trips to the dog park. He had heart-to-hearts and lie-downs with Catie and chews from Riley and caught some sunshine on the back deck. We had to keep an eye on Riley though – he’s an over-exurberant de-stuffer of stuffed animals. Barney hung out in a cedar tree and even made off with Riley’s ball, which Riley didn’t find amusing at all. It’s the one thing simply Riley does not share.

We did a downtown tour with him, visited our civic and provincial buildings, Edmonton’s new art gallery (no one would let us through the doors though), an urban park, and had a number of lazy days and evenings at home while Catie was recuperating from her last chemo treatment.

We hope Barney had a good time. He was well-slobbered and licked and chewed and Riley at one point even stripped him the sweater he arrived in. We’re happy he came for a visit. We’re sad that he has to go but we know he has a mandate to meet many other eager Tripawds.

Headless Barney Seen on the Slabs

FrankenBarney last seen in Slab City, USA

Who is that Half Pint, anyway? And what does he have against animals?

If Wyatt ever finds out, he’s likely do to him something similar to what he has done with poor FrankenBarney!

Check out Barney’s travel blog for more about his pilgrimage to the Church of Broken Toys in Slab City, USA. And stay tuned for news about the next stop on the KillBarney Tour.

Barney Still Intact After Puppy Play Time

Spirit Peyton welcomes Barney to Loveland, CO for puppy play time with Rhys and Dillon.

This just in from Loveland, Colorado: Barney has been partying with Spirit Peyton’s Pack!

We received an exciting package from Alaska last week. To our surprise it was Barney. We were really excited to meet him and experience all the previous Tripawd hosts. He made it very hard to want to kill him. We took turns chewing on him, as well as each other.

Barney was happy to sit on the sidelines watching. The week was pretty uneventful until Saturday.

Mom and Dad took Barney on a road trip around Northern Colorado in a new MINI Cooper. Barney was excited to pose in and on all the different cars. Later we took him up towards Estes Park where Barney got to experience true Colorado weather. In the morning it was nice and sunny and in the afternoon it was cold and snowy.

While on our mountain trip Barney played in the snow, in the river, and climbed trees.

At one point we caught Barney in a BBQ pit because Rhys was curious as to what BBQ Dinosaur tasted like. We had a great adventure.

The KillBarney tour must go on because we also failed the mission. We had such high hopes that the new little guy would rip him to shreds with those sharp puppy chompers! No such luck!! Barney continues to his next Tripawd family!
